A soon-to-be husband and wife were taking engagement photos last weekend when the photographic rendezvous turned into a life-saving rescue.
When Becki Salmon and Matt Werner decided to spend hours attempting to get the perfect engagement photos, they didn’t realize they would have a LIFE changing afternoon. Everything went perfectly… especially the timing.
During a series of photos, a little boy was captured in the background playing near the water. Then, immediately after one photo, he jumped into the water and began to drown. Because of excessive rain, the river was swollen and dangerous.
“He was obviously struggling to get back to the surface,” said Becki. “His head went back. He was bobbing up and down. I knew he was going under.”
Before anyone else could move, Becki jumped into the river after the boy… full clothed.
“If I would have had my wedding dress on that, that’s what I would have been in the water in,” she said.
The photographer was able to catch the heroic rescue all on film; the photo shoot turned out to be like any other he had ever encountered:
During Becki and Matt’s photo shoot, they couldn’t be happier.
They were having their engagement photos taken on the bank of a river.
In the background, something important was about to happen…
A little boy went into the water, but didn’t realize how strong the currents were. The photographer accidentally caught the moment on camera.
When she heard the boy drowning, Becki leapt into the river behind her, fully clothed.
She saved the little boy from the strong current, photo shoot or not.
Becki says even if she was wearing her wedding dress, she would have done the exact same thing.
As she said goodbye, she gave the little boy whose life she saved a tight hug.
We have a feeling no one will forget what happened this day.
Becki happens to be a trained lifeguard and her fiance is a paramedic; the boy couldn’t have chosen a better place to get into trouble… everything worked out almost too perfectly.
Although, we hope their wedding is a little less eventful.
